Cot Blankets

DK Glovesheets White Cellular Cot Blankets

What is a security blanket? A security blanket is a familiar item, often a blanket, that provides comfort. You probably had a security blanket as a baby or child. You might have brought it around with you wherever you went, gave it a strange name because you couldn't pronounce blanket, and used it so much it got nearly worn out.

Should kids have a security blanket? Sometimes when we think of security blankets and whether or not they will benefit a child we think of how hard it is for kids to give up their security blanket. I remember when my sister had a security blanket. She carried it around with her wherever she went. It soon became very worn out and my parents were afraid she had become too attached to it and wanted to clean it and put it away before it got so worn that she couldn't use it anymore.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Where to buy cheap but nice baby cot blankets?
    Hi

I'm expecting twin boys and am trying to find reasonable priced baby blankets for their cot bed as I need 2 lots of them.

Ones in babies R us, mothercare and Kiddicare are all about 12 pound for 1. I've tried George of asda, tescos and Matalan but the cheap ones aren't big enough for a cot bed.

Can anyone please tell me where to get blankets from, its driving me mad not being able to find any!

    • ANSWER:
hi, i bought some at carboots and on ebay..congratulation to twins

  2. QUESTION:
when did you start buying baby stuff (essentials) ie. pram, cot, blankets etc.?
i am 18 weeks which is half way but i don't know when to start buying... i don't want to jump the gun (maybe silly but i am being a little superstitious and not wanting to tempt fate!!) but i know i need to be prepared, when did you all get your stuff?

    • ANSWER:
during the third trimester is when we bought all our stuff.

now is a good time to hunt for the cheapest prices and keep on the look out for sales.

  3. QUESTION:
Looking for more cot size blankets (UK only please)?
Hiya, I'm looking for some larger blankets suitable for my son's cot. He only has one just now that I like the size of, from Mothercare. It's big enough to cover him whilst it's doubled over. What other shops or websites do bigger sized thick blankets, as I do find Mothercare quite expensive sometimes.

UK shops or website only, thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I got a really lovely fleece bedted one from eBay, I'll try & get a link for you, I think it was reasonably priced and its really soft.

      here -

Its not so cheap as I thought BUT from that eBay shop I bought a winter duvet for Mr Berry & I, 2 new pillows, 2 cot sheets and the blanket, paid one lot of postage and the whole lot came to less than a normal duvet costs somewhere else - I was dead pleased. Great service and well worth it I thought.

  4. QUESTION:
when did you set out your cot? putting the sheets on and blankets?
at how many weeks pregnant did you put the cot sheets on and the moses basket?

or did you wait until you got home with the baby

    • ANSWER:
After we came home from the hospital, which I'm glad about as we were there for 8 days.

  5. QUESTION:
does any one know a website that has guidelines for how many blankets you should use in your baby's cot?
this is my third baby and there is a six year gap between 2 and 3 so I can't remember what the guidelines are for how many depending on the temperature. thanks in advance for any help.

    • ANSWER:
There really shouldn't be any blankets in the crib at all. If the temp. is lower, use a fleece pj set, or a sleepsack, like Halo.
They have warmer fleece sleepsacks or thinner cotton ones.
      http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=sleepsack&origkw=sleepsack&f=Taxonomy/TRUS/2255957&sr=1

ETA: Teeny Beeny is right! You can use a blanket for swaddling, but should have no loose blankets in the crib.
